Forbidden Error While Launching Modules

Forbidden Error While Launching Modules

Issue

Users encounter a “Forbidden” or “Access Forbidden” error when launching learning modules.

Environment:
  1. LMS Learning Module
  2. Repository-referenced content
  3. MP4/video-based course files

Cause

This issue commonly occurs when the learning content is referenced from the Repository, but the required permissions are not granted to the appropriate organization, roles, or user groups.

If the Repository folder or files do not have proper access permissions configured, users will encounter a “Forbidden” error during module launch.

Observed Behavior:
  1. Module fails to launch
  2. “Forbidden” error message displayed
  3. “Access Forbidden” page appears after clicking Launch
  4. Issue commonly affects MP4/video content stored in the Repository
Resolution

Verify Content Source:
  1. Open the learning module
  2. Confirm that the content is referencing files stored in the Repository
  3. Verify whether the files are MP4 or video-based content
Configure Repository Permissions

  1. Navigate to the Repository
  2. Locate the folder containing the referenced course files
  3. Open the folder permissions/settings
  4. Grant Read Access to the required:
    1. Organization
    2. Roles
    3. User Groups
  5. Save the changes
  6. Re-launch the module and validate access
It is recommended to assign permissions at the folder level instead of configuring permissions individually for each file. This simplifies permission management and ensures all files within the folder inherit the correct access settings.
